I can't believe it's not the Justice League!

These are some of the mods I have in the link to the right but (thanx cornsilkSW!) they are a little small (new to this websitey photo stuff) and I will be working on them and replacing the pics in the Yahoo Photos link.

These Blog shots can be clicked for a greater resolution, so I will post a few of the modified shots here for clarity and more, specifically, if people are curious before I get the changes into the photo link.

BOOSTER GOLD

Booster here is made from Booster and Spymaster.

I hoped to have put him in a more kinetic pose.

BLUE BEETLE
Ted's sculpt (much like Booster's but a little moreso) is lame, early, and particularly boring. Details are fine but the pose is... uurgghh, without character. So I got his Indy clone (Lobster J) and voila! I like the mod as he looks like he is leaving the scene, whcih parallel's his stance re: the superbuddies.

POWER GIRL

I thought the Clix was a wee bit too static and liked her "big cloak" from the Superbuddies so the mod is a minor reposition with Barda's Cloak and Ultimate' Storm's face w puttied hairdo.

GUY GARDNER
Ya gotta love the character but the Mod was interesting - Symbiote Spidey's torso and arms, Reed Richard's head and Elongated Man's hand coming from the (controversial) ring. The poetic twist is that Guy's legs were stolen and modified somewhat from Big Barda's.

MAWY MAWVEL

This was a heap of fun to make. Superwoman's legs and torso, Emma Frosts' arms and Ultimate Storm's face but I really cannot remember how I made the ponytail...
...I think it was a model horse's tail.

Mods #12-22 AVENGERS FOREVER

This is a great little series and introduced me to Genis-Vell and Songbird. I picked it up on ebay a couple of years ago but the series (came out in 99. It was the first Avengers comics I bought in over twenty years and the millenial year-special quality is astounding from the treasures I collected as a kid. Carlos Pacheco's art is inspiring. I was inspired. What could I do? Hmmm....

Ba-da-boom - 1 repainted Wasp with wings broken and re-set, 1 minor weird-arsed mod to the already fabulous Songbird (Wiz-Kids standards are soaring, she is a great example - except for the dangerously thin ankle and a pose that has her sort of heading for a crash landing, face first... the pink sound-wings help balance the mod, somewhat) and Yellowjacket, Giant-Man, Hawkeye and Cap (a leaping, shield-chucking Cap).

The PHOTOS are all fairly clear & detailed, CLICK them.

WASP

Then I just HAD TO do more... the supporting characters were more fun than the worn-out Avengers on their time-tripping, alternate-reality-filled romp. This picture summed up the theme - the cavalry!

Kang (V Kang) with ridiculous BFGs, Rick Jones (on an Exp Domino base) & The Supreme Intelligence (Hmmm... Oracle! I used V Hepzibah's base, range reduced to 0 - 27pts w a copy of Oracle's dial - not comp legal but fair). Libra (Roo Elongated Man) is at the back.

The Supreme Cycle (V Lockjaw, what else could it be? A Harley trike for over-powered SUV lovers with all the features of a Tardis from the House of Kang. Front and rear seating - anywhere, anywhen - there you are, all cool-like...) is made entirely from an old Ghost Rider bike, Hawkeye's skycycle and the Black Knight's mechanical steed (all chopped into bits) with 3 wheels (from a tank sprue), 4 round hatches, 1 plastic Terminator Flamer and two indiscernable bits from the bits box.

I made it for the "feel" rather than as some sort of reproduction and you can hang The S.I. off the back even though The S.I. is specifically meant to sit on the ICWO card (hence, no need for the Bat's TA). The S.I. looks bigger off the back of the bike (as he is way not to scale but the green, brainy, fishtank-guy still works for me). In Contact With The Suprememe Intelligence... I was originally going to use Exp The Brain - which I thought I needed to keep - as the S.I. but I misplaced it. Oracle on Card works way better.

Captain Marvel - Supernova/Avengers Forever...

Wow.... this is freaky. I have just completed a themed collection of mods and repaints (mainly mods) of all the main characters in the Avengers Forever series. Captain Marvel (Genis-Vell, the soon-to-be Exp Heroclix fig) is the only character I did not attempt as I knew he was in Supernova. When I completed Hawkeye (the last of the six) and took a look to see if there were Supernova teaser previews up... well, there's Legacy/Cap M (Jnr)/Photon (MkII). Gosh... So, 11 mods & repaints to follow... 6 Avengers, 4 pivotal supporting characters and 1 cool vehicle.

Repaint #3 & Mod #11 Sentry

It may sound silly but I repainted Sentry to clean him up and then make him look all wet and dirty (and allude to night maneuvers but it is tricky painting inferences). He has that Aquaman on skid row thing happening but he still has to look real strong and pretty determined. If he's gonna bother gettin' off the floor he'd better have a darn good reason... the sculpt does as he's flying with dukes up!

OK. So I'm all happy with my Sentry and then I get an opportunity to pick up the New Avengers #2 Sentry trade. Uh... the secret history... oh... Ohhhh.

Well, in a nutshell, the depressed 'I am a walking mega-bomb, what am I going to do next' thing is out and an uber group of Marvel hero-types stage an intervention, a sort of hero-eye for the straight meta-guy. White Queen heads the makeover. The whole image needs a clean up and Emma's got the stuff to do the job! After a quick wipe up and mental slap around... ba-boom!

The power of
ten thousand
exploding suns!

So the previous Sentry, the Breakout Sentry, the dysfunctional tank Sentry, well, he was just a 'phase' that now seems too-quickly over. The bearded (Boom-Boom-Booom) butt-kicking stressed-out super-dude is no more and the =g-l-a-r-e= All-New " SENTRY Guardian of Good " is the look of things to come.

What a transformation we have! A hero my mum would be proud to have over for a cuppa. A 21st century hero in line with this age... bright, hopeful, powerful and with supportive peers. He has the glowing "look" and he has that clean-cut old-school poster boy charisma and he even (like C.Marvel & C.Kent - more Kent as he is married, happily so it seems) has BIG hero oozing out from his very pores. 'Cept this Big S is blond in contrast to the the dark haired DC types (ah, the twist) and his now-cooler-than-it-ever-was-to-be-a-wonder-geek buddy is Reed Richards (rather than, say, Bruce Wayne) and he has Tony Stark (AND Reed, the Bolt, Doc Strange, Prof-X and Namor) watching over him (Namor is staring...). So he is the conservative SUPERhero with the potential to be anything... and not all of it good.

I like Bob. I think we can expect interesting things in his character development... unless the big-boys have an agenda.

Mod #10 Talisman

Daughter mod #2. Shaman was Talisman for a very short time (in a black costume with furry white bits, a staff and an owl) but his daughter had the role before and after he did.

I thought about using Jinx with a headswap but ended up using Blink shaving off all of her equipment and doing a basic re-work of the costume. I used Shaman's impressive blue zappy bits to accentuate her magicky-ness. In retrospect, I unintentionally made her a little too busty (my squatter fig represents her short undocumented 'super size me!' period) but I still think she has a bit of a native North American (it's not native Canadian... is it?) look.

I'm tempted to paint her zappy stuff a pinky/purple (that red, yellow, blue arty primary-colour clash thing got me when I posted the photo - you can see how Mr Byrne cleverly avoids it in the above picture) but I'm gonna need a rainy day.

Mod #9 Siryn

The first of my two daughters of heroes. I like Banshee, I dig the Irish & Siryn's cool after all these years (& with little lasses of me own). The mod is based on Firestar with Ultimate Storm's head and a fair bit of green stuff and paint to get to the finished product.

Starfire's... uh, Firestar's skin-tight suit simply needs the boots shaved down and then she becomes an excellent template for a mod. Ororo's head, with a bit of paint, was perfect and I was happy with the pose. Win win win. The lass and her father share the same powers so the base is a no-brainer. I suppose I am really overpowering her using Vet Banshee (with distinguished secret service, hero & hero-teaching careers behind him) but I wanna see Siryn rock.

Find your target, smile then SCREAM!!!!!

Rain... night... ya gotta love it!

I know Madrox from one story and other clix made from that (New X-Men HC Anthology Vol#2) story are Canonball and the Fantomex-trys-for-asylum team of Jean & the Prof (with Fantomex!). Still, somebody else's gotta be in from the rainy subway jaunt at night with Canonball and Madrox but, as it is, no other X-Corpers (and I don't know who the others really are - bar Banshee's daughter...) featured have been made into Clix. Hmmmm....

Repaint #2 Sam Guthrie

OK... not every great mod (or mod you will be happy with) is going to take a massive amount of effort. Sometimes it is just for a model to fit into a themed team better or because you just hate the result you pull out of the pack. Regardless, a mod's creation is pretty much a personal and whimsical thing.

I hate the Cannonball costume chosen for the REV and LE. HATE. So I simply had to darken it up to get it in line with the more current X-Corps get-ups. Europe, rain... night... ya gotta love it. Jean came up after Madrox was possible to play on table and I was making a 600 points X-men in Paris in the 21st Century team with Fantomex. I wanted Sam but not in purple and retro leathers. Uh-uhh... A bit of deep glossy blue, dirty smokey black tones, silver lenses, highlighted blondness and my (Transporter - Woo hoo!) super-special 21stC Sam Guthrie LE is table ready.

Mod #8 Jean Grey

Ok, Marvel Girl has gone a long way and the Phoenix thing has done the rounds to the point that we all know she really IS a powerhouse. Character-wise she has become the brood-mothery, stand-tall-when-the-firing-starts veteran leader. Clothes-wise she has opted for one of many (and Jean's closet must be roomy) long jackets/coats, with a grey jumper (?- wow, I'm feelin' all fashionista!). She wears a variety of X-motifs on these sometimes yellow piped, sometimes quilted always long black coats from the broad yellow X on her jumper to a broad grey X on the back of her coat to the X-Logo in yellow on her shoulders and/or chest. Yellow X or Metallic X buckles, black pants and boots. She has choices...So with a now classic REV Jean Grey, a Ultimate X-men REV & a new and cool X-Factor Jean and a plethora of Jean/Maddie/Phoenix-related Uniques I wanted one to represent a contemporary post X-men-movies/New X-Men JG. So I used the base of the edgier Ultimate-X-men Vet Marvel Girl and the Jessica Jones sculpt. Other than a flicker of Phoenixy psychic flame, leftover from Shaman and to cover the drink (?), the effect is all through dabs of paint to bring out the nuances of the subtlest of Jean's long-coat ensembles. All Black blends with the new Jean, she can keep her understated hero thing without looking like a girly sidekick which, by now, is so not her role.
She even works with the base as she does not feel like she will break (the JJ archenemy base dillema) when you turn her dial.
